CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Picture Books
A Juried Exhibition of Self-Published and Handmade Photography Books

The Power Plant Gallery, a laboratory for the arts at Duke University, invites photographers, artists and bookmakers to submit self-published or handmade photography books for a juried exhibition to be on display from mid-September through November 2014 at the gallery located at the American Tobacco Campus in Downtown Durham. North Carolina artists are particularly encouraged to submit.

The exhibition will explore the emergence, diversity and artistry in photography books and encourages artists to also consider untraditional definitions of the photo book.

Guidelines:
-Photography book must be self-published or handmade. Books made in conjunction with professional presses, designers or online services are allowed.
-Collaborative books are welcomed.
-Artists may submit books on any subject.
-Please limit entries to two books per artist.

How to submit:
Email a PDF copy of the book, along with no more than five jpeg images of the final product that demonstrate the book as object to powerplantgallery@duke.edu.  DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL BOOKS AT THIS TIME. Only electronic submissions will be considered.

Please include the following information in the body of your email:
-Title of the book, Photographer(s)/Artist(s), Other Contributor(s), Date of Publication, Place of publication, and Edition Size.
-A short 250 word statement on the book
-A short 250 word artist(s) bio

Deadline for Submissions:
All emailed submission materials are due by 5pm on August 8th. Submissions received after that date will not be considered. Artists will be notified by August 15th if their work has been selected for the exhibition. All selected books must arrive at the gallery no later than September 3rd. Artists are responsible for return shipping. A self-addressed envelope with the proper postage or a Fedex account number are recommended. Books without return shipping will not be returned.

Please note that books accepted into this exhibition will be put on display and will be available for public handling. The Power Plant Gallery cannot guarantee the condition of books at the time the exhibition closes, however public handling will be closely monitored.
