Lisa McCarty (’13) will screen Lake Eden as part of ReVIEWING Black Mountain College 8, at UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center, September 23.

Tamika Galanis (’16) will screen When the Lionfish Came at the Trinidad+Tobago Film Festival in September, and will participate and exhibit in the Caribbean Digital III Conference at Columbia University in December.

Jon-Sesrie Goff (’16), Roxanne Campbell (’16) and Tamika Galanis (’16) are panelists (sum of these things: negritude and materiality) at  Black Portraiture[s] III in Johannesburg, South Africa, November 17-18.

Alex Cunningham (’16) and Lisa McCarty (’13) will screen films as part of Exposure, curated by Tomonori Nishikawa, at Binghamton University’s Kopernik Observatory, September 30.

Salima Al-Ismaili (’17), named the MFA|EDA Graduate and Professional Student Council representative, and recipient of the Kenan Institute for Ethics 2016-17 Graduate Arts Fellowship.

Nicholas Pilarski (’15) and Destini Riley, named to Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Film, and featured on New York Times Op Docs.

Alina Taalman (’15), named inaugural Cassilhaus Travel Fellow.

Jeremy M. Lange (’18) and Alix Blair’s Farmer/Veteran awarded Best Documentary at the Brooklyn Film Festival. Jeremy also contributed a feature on Burk Uzzle for IndyWeek, and was photographer for The New York Times Magazine’s recent feature on the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

Rachel Boillot (’14), featured in the New Yorker with her Silent Ballad Cumberland photo series.

Laurenn McCubbin (’13) exhibited with Borders at the RiverHouse Gallery, and in January will exhibit A Monument to the Risen as part of The Commons Curatorial Residency in San Francisco at SOMArts.

Aaron Kutnick (’15), exhibited in the Relapse Collective with 3459.

Erin Espelie (’14), screened The Lanthanide Series at Anthology Film Archives and Sight Unseen.

Dan Smith (’16) is the Student Programs manager at the Kenan Institute of Ethics, and was featured in Ain’t Bad Magazine.

Tracy Fish (’15), featured in Oxford American’s Eyes on the South.

Qathi Hart (’16), story contributor to Close Relations, episode 18 of Scene on Radio.

Chris Thomas (’16), Artist-in-Residence at Goodyear Arts.

Lisa McCarty (’13) screened Fragments of a Tesseract in the Carnegie Museum of Art’s 2-Minute Film Festival. Lisa also screened at the Chicago and Winnipeg Underground Film Festivals, and contributed Actions of Light, Unseen to Oxford American’s Eyes on the South.

Michaela O’Brien (’16) and Love Valley featured in Ain’t Bad Magazine.

John Rash (’14) invited as a feature filmmaker in the Zhengzhou Experimental Film Festival, a recipient of the 2016 Brickyard Residency in Beijing, and contributed to Close Relations, episode 18 of Scene on Radio.

Matt Cicanese (’15), received a National Geographic Young Explorer grant, and was accepted into the Emerging League Program of the International League of Conservation Photographers.
