MFAEDA 2013: The Inaugural Thesis Exhibition Opens on Friday, 3/22!

 

MFA|EDA 2013, the inaugural thesis exhibition of the MFA in Experimental and Documentary Arts at Duke will kick off Friday, March 22 from 5-10pm in the newly renovated Power Plant building at the American Tobacco Campus in downtown Durham.  The event will begin with an opening reception in the Power Plant Gallery from 5-7pm, followed by the the first film premieres from 7-10pm in the Full Frame Theater. The program will continue on Sunday, March 24 with additional film premieres; further openings and events will take place throughout March and April at venues across Durham including Cassilhaus, Casbah Durham, and The Carrack Modern Art, the Fredric Jameson Gallery and Duke School.

The inaugural exhibition, featuring work by the Class of 2013, includes a range of media. From installation and performance to film and photography, the fifteen site-specific projects and presentations investigate a range of topics – photographic abstraction, complex familial ties and histories, undocumented immigrant youth, Mormon religion and ritual, the poetic nuances of street photography and the expressive possibilities of moving image archives.
