Two MFAEDA students, Lisa McCarty and John Rash, have submitted work to the 2012 “Envisioning the Invisible: Mahato Memorial Photo Contest,” sponsored by the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke. Three winners will be announced on November 7th, with awards of $1000, $500 and $250 respectively.
John Rash has been selected as one of the 20 finalists; the work of the three winners will ultimately be displayed in the atrium of the Fitzpatrick CIEMAS building at Duke University for the next year, after being unveiled during the Mahato event on November 7th.
The Mahato Memorial event honors Abhijit Mahato, a former engineering graduate student who was tragically murdered on Friday, January 18, 2008. He valued activities that bridged the gaps between the science/engineering and social sciences/humanities disciplines, including sports, chess and photography. By holding this multi-disciplinary image contest, the contest’s organizers seek to celebrate Abhijit’s life by bringing together the graduate and professional community at Duke in a celebration of talent and competition.
