Randall Kenan, raised in the rural North Carolina community of Chinquapin, is the author of A Visitation of Spirits, Let the Dead Bury Their Dead, Walking on Water: Black American Lives at the Turn of the Twenty-first Century, and The Fire This Time, among others. He is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Whiting Writers Award, the Sherwood Anderson Award, the John Dos Passos Award, and was the 1997 Rome Prize winner from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. A former Lehman Brady Distinguished Professor at Duke University, he teaches Creative Writing at UNC-Chapel Hill where he is Professor of English.
