Amanda Berg, ’14: Exhibited at PhotoVille in New York City.

Rachel Boillot ’14: With work featured in Feature Shoot and the Daily Mail UK, Rachel is exhibiting her current work, Silent Ballad at The Framer’s Corner through December 31st. Her new work explores the musical heritage in the mountains of East Tennessee. Rachel also co-curated Tracing the American South: Photographs from the Do Good Fund Collection which recently exhibited at Cassilhaus in Chapel Hill.

Philip Brubaker, ’13: Philip is the film curator at the Geeksboro Coffeehouse Cinema in Greensboro, NC. He continues to co-host the film criticism podcast, In the Queue: Film Conversations with Andrew and Phil. Philip’s long-term documentary Abandoned has been ten years in the making and will be completed in 2015.

Matthew Cicanese, ’15: Work is currently touring the UK with the Environmental Photographer of the Year award and was published in the magazine “Focus” [Milan, Italy]. He was accepted into the Emerging League Program with the International League of Conservation Photographers and received an Honorable Mention awarded in the International Photography Awards. Matthew was featured on UNC-TVs “North Carolina Now” in September and named an Artist-in-residence for the Light Grey Art Lab’s 2016 Iceland Expedition. Currently working on exhibit as part of Duke’s “Document Duke 360” initiative.

Malina Chavez, ’14: Recently named Programs Coordinator for the Carolina Digital Humanities Initiative, in the department of American Studies at UNC.

Laura Doggett, ’13: Named a 2015-26 CDS Lewis Hine Documentary Fellow, Laura’s film students’ work is being exhibited in multiple festivals and venues including: Calgary International Film Festival’s Youth Cinema Competition, Tallgrass Film Festival, 29th Leeds International Film Festival’s Parallel Worlds Program and the Cucalorus Film Festival.

Erin Espelie, ’14: Appointed Assistant Professor of Film Studies and Critical Media Practices at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Her film, The Lanthanide Series, will continue its film festival run in Seoul, Korea in August at the 15th Seoul New Media International Festival.

Tracy Fish, ’15: Currently an Adjunct Professor in the Visual Arts Department and recently appointed to the Art Department at Coastal Carolina University teaching a range of courses from Digital Foundations to Digital Photography and Intro to Moving Image. Recent juried group exhibition include PhotoPlace Gallery [Middlebury, VT] and SPE Southeast Regional Exhibition [Greenville, SC].

Caitlin M. Kelly, ’14: Director of the Power Plant Gallery. Recent exhibitions include The Pill Box Project at ArtFields2015 in Lake City, SC . Mornings in an Empty Room #3 as part of the group exhibition, Radiance at Woman Made Gallery in Chicago, IL. She was appointed to the College Art Association, Committee on Women in the Arts (2015-2018) helping to write the monthly ‘picks’ on the best feminist art and scholarship.

Anna Kipervaser, ’15: Screened Instrument in the Haverhill Experimental Film Festival. In October, she is at Muestra Internacional de Bogota in Bogota, Colombia with Aaron Kutnick, Nicholas Pilarski, and Pedro Lasch as part of the Experimental and Documentary Arts Institute (EDAI). At MIDBO, she is showing Myth, as well as Aziz and Vale, running a 16mm film workshop, and speaking at the conference. In November, Suhail and The One Having Crossed Over screens at Anthology Film Archives in New York as part of the New Filmmakers Special Program. In Spring 2016, Kipervaser is teaching The Middle East Through Film and Moving Image Practice as part of the Arts of the Moving Image Program at Duke University.

Aaron Kutnick, ’15: “Camera Reversa” is currently in the 2015 Fuse Factory Juried Exhibition: Interventions, Sep 28 – Oct 30 and “16mm Sound Film” will be screening at Strange Beauty Film Festival in October and Cucalorus Film Festival in November. Ava Lowrey, ’15: Has two films screening at festivals, (car) Hypnophobia at the Antimatter Film Festvial and The Carrack’s R.E.C.A.P, and The Button King at Cucalorus and Indie Memphis. Ava has also recently been selected as the Southern Foodways Alliance‘s Pihakis Foodways Documentary Fellow at Ole Miss.

Peter Lisignoli, ’13: Peter is teaching film studies and production at the University of New Mexico. His work was featured at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Santa Fe with the local micro-cinema, Basement Films. Also, a documentary film edited by Peter on Chicano Author Rudolfo Anaya aired on PBS this fall.

Annabel Manning, ’13: Has worked for the past four years, collaborating with the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art (Charlotte, NC) on a Jail Arts Initiative organizing an exhibition of works from the Jail Arts Initiative at the Latin American Contemporary Art Projects (LaCa).

Lisa McCarty, ’13: Curator of the Archives of Documentary Arts, Duke University. Recent exhibitions could be seen at Griffin Museum of Photography 21st Annual Juried Exhibition, Houston Center for Photography 33rd Annual Member Exhibition, Developer Drawings at Cassilhaus Gallery, and Dateline 012 at Dateline in Denver, Colorado. Recent screenings include Positioning Systems at Microscope Gallery, Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival, Something Said Only Once Festival, Milwaukee Underground Film Festival, and Prime Time at the Asheville Art Museum. Lisa is presently curating Intimate Gestures: Handmade Books by William Gedney for Duke University’s Rubenstein Library as well as daily documentation of the sun and a photographic adaptation of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s Circles.

Jing Niu, ’14: Jing is currently finishing a video series working with communities in California and their struggle for water justice. She co-produced and narrated a radio story about San Jerardo, a cooperative community for migrant farm workers, airing nationally. Jing was interviewed by Indie Grits Film Festival about her work and recently joined Veuxdo Child Films, a group based in Oakland. She is excited to have an upcoming solo film screening hosted at the Blackhole Cinematheque in November.

Talena Sanders, ’13: Talena Sanders’ new short film Prospector continues its festival run, with screenings at Oak Cliff Film Festival, Fronteira International Documentary & Experimental Film Festival, Haverhill Experimental Film Festival, L’Age d’Or Festival, and the Viennale with screenings at Durham’s Unexposed, Ft. Collin’s Experimental Pints & Pictures, and the Journal of Media Practice Symposium in Wales. Her thesis film, Liahona, screened at Play-Doc [winning the CAMIRA jury prize] and at DokuFest Kosovo. Liahonawas recently acquired for distribution by Documentary Educational Resources, with online streaming on Doc Alliance Films and Fandor. She produced the documentary short 14 Homicides (directed by Jona Gerlach) premiering at Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival. Her short film completed as part of the MFA project in Las Vegas will screen at Anthology Film Archives this November [2015]. She’s currently working on an interactive documentary installation on the Montana Bakken oil field communities, and a short experimental documentary on Victorian-era radical feminist diarist Mary MacLane. Along with MFA EDA alumna Jing Niu and filmmaker Kelly Gallagher she co-administers the online film community Femmeworks.
